THE COMMUNITY FUND (425788)

Offers a comprehensive and coordinated approach to helping people in need in Greater Fall River, including the disabled, youth, and senior citizens. The wide variety of services provided helps one out of three people in our community.

 

Areas of Need

banner200-2Designations to areas of need are used to address key problem areas that require urgent attention. Volunteers distribute these designated funds to the appropriate community agencies which can best achieve the necessary results.
 

CHILDCARE & YOUTH SERVICES (696588)

Day care, youth learning and development, mentoring, high school drop-out prevention, camping programs, companionship for children of single parents, recreation, suicide prevention, and counseling.

 

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION (696688)

Programs providing emergency services, information, referrals, safe environments, shelter, and counseling for victims of abuse.

 

ELDER SERVICES (697088)

Home health care, visiting nurses, respite care, protective services, elder day care services, and social programs for prevention of isolation and loneliness.

 

FOOD, SHELTER & EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE (338782)

Food assistance through soup kitchens, food pantries, and emergency food vouchers. Also provides housing for homeless individuals and families on a temporary basis.

Education, information, referrals, and support for victims of diabetes, mental illness, terminal cancer, AIDS and other diseases; family counseling and suicide prevention.

 

LITERACY, EDUCATION, & MULTICULTURAL SERVICES (330617)

Literacy, English-as-a-Second-Language, drop-out prevention, tutoring, job training and placement, immigrant assistance, and other programs which work to improve the education of our youth and adults.

 

PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY CHALLENGED (696988)

Advocacy, community education, job training, respite care, day care services, rehabilitation, residential services, and recreation activities for physically, emotionally, and developmentally challenged individuals.

 

SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION & TREATMENT (697188)

Treatment for and prevention of substance abuse, information, referrals, counseling, rehabilitation services, and halfway housing shelters.

 

UNITED WAY ENDOWMENT FUND (851388)

A restricted fund which is invested to generate income to be used in times of economic upheaval and/ or services to benefit future generations.
